We find we have reason to be joyful, we have a reason for feasting, we have a reason to be excited – and it is all in the work of Jesus. Our text is Luke 5:27-39. Try to read it through a few times, seeking God’s guidance as you prepare your hearts to worship Him!

If you’re looking for a faithful church in central Illinois, consider visiting us at Providence. Come and learn about Jesus.

Below is a copy of our order of worship for you to review our Psalms, hymns and spiritual songs.

See you Sunday!

At Providence Church, we enjoy singing the wonderful words of the Psalms. Centuries ago, the Psalter was the hymnal for the church. Recognizing the different gifts God bestows upon His people, we gather to learn these psalms in four part harmony, blending our voices in praise to the King. Our prayer is that this psalm is a blessing to you.

This is a portion of Psalm 42 helps us to reflect upon the goodness of God, even when challenges confront our way. There are days when everything seems to be wrong, when all the powers of the world are aligned against us, and we find ourselves close to despair. But in those days when we find ourselves in a spiritual desert, the Spirit reminds us of the goodness of God, we recall his tender mercy, we remeber He is faithful, even when we are faithless, and we are renewed as we find our hope and rest in Him.

As deer for streams, I pant for God;
I pant for You so longingly.
I thirst for God, the living God;
How long until God’s face I see?

In steady streams, tears from my eyes
Have been my food each night and day;
While those around, with mocking cries,
“Where is your God?” to me they say.

My yearning soul turns to the past;
To keep the feast I led the crowd.
Up to God’s house we’d come at last;
With joyful thanks we’d shout aloud.

O why, my soul, do you grow ill?
And why are you cast down in me?
Hope now in God. I’ll praise Him still,
My helper and my God is He.

Recognizing the different gifts God bestows upon His people, we gather to learn these psalms in four part harmony, blending our voices in praise to the King.
This is a portion of Psalm 72 that focuses on the blessings that come as we serve the Lord – and resulting praise that should rise from us as we see His goodness.

May waving grain on hilltops thrive;
Like Lebanon, its harvest yield.
May people flourish, towns revive,
Like grasses growing in the field,
Like grasses growing in the field.

O may his name forever live;
Yes, like the sun, may his fame last.
By him may people blessings give,
May all the nations call him blessed,
May all the nations call him blessed.

May God be blessed – the LORD alone -
Blessed be the God of Israel.
For only He has wonders done;
His works all other deeds excel,
His works all other deeds excel.

And may His name of glorious worth
Receive its praise eternally;
And may His glory fill the earth
Amen, Amen; so may it be,
Amen, Amen; so may it be.

“Rule in the midst of enemies,
Subdue each under Your command.”

Your people, in Your day of pow’r,
Freely give themselves to You;
Your youth, all clothed in holiness,
Appear each day like morning’s dew.
The LORD has sworn a solemn oath
From which He’ll never be released:
“In th’order of Melchizedek
Forevermore You are a priest.”

And when His day of wrath has come;
Then the Lord at Your right hand
Will crush great kings and nations judge,
With fallen bodies fill the land.
Justly condemned beneath His rule
Will heads of many nations die;
But from the brook He’ll stop to drink,
And His own head He’ll lift up high.

This month, we will learn a new version of Psalm 100. This Psalm has been a favorite of God’s people for ages. And it is easy to see why. In this short Psalm, many powerful messages are conveyed. We see ourselves as God’s creation, rightly placed beneath Him, and yet, we rejoice that He is a personal God who calls us into His presence because of His merciful love. We come, proclaiming His reign over all, for He is worthy of our praise!

In all the land rejoice
And to the LORD cry out.
In worship gladly serve the LORD,
For joy before Him shout.

Know that the LORD is God.
He made us, we are His,
His people and the chosen flock
Set where His pasture is.

With thanks come through His gates,
Praise in His courts proclaim;
Declare the glory He deserves,
Give blessings to His name.

Because the LORD is good,
His love will yet endure;
To generations, on and on,
His faithfulness is sure.

Our prayer is that this psalm is a blessing to you.

This month, we will learn Psalm 102:18-22, a great reminder of the Lord’s work of redemption, His condescension to a sinful and rebellious mankind to save us from our bondage, and a reminder of the growth of Kingdom from now until the consummation of the age. We serve a victorious King, and the day is coming when all the nations will be His disciples!

Let this be written for the sake
Of those alive in future days,
So people He has yet to make
Will to the LORD lift up their praise.

From holy heights the LORD looked down,
To view the earth from heaven high,
That He might hear the pris’ner’s groan,
And free them who are doomed to die;

That Zion may the LORD’s name tell,
Jerusalem His praise record,
When gathered are the peoples all,
And kingdoms join to serve the LORD.

At Providence Church, we enjoy singing the wonderful words of the Psalms. Centuries ago, the Psalter was the hymnal for the church. Recognizing the different gifts God bestows upon His people, we gather to learn these psalms in four part harmony, blending our voices in praise to the King. Our prayer is that this psalm will be a blessing to you.

This month, we will learn Psalm 126, a powerful psalm of praise that speaks of the Lord’s great deliverance. This is a psalm that should remind us to praise and thank the Lord for His work in freeing us from the bondage and captivity of sin. Because He has done what we could not do, we are now able to serve Him with gladness, looking forward to the day when all the nations of the earth will praise the work of our God.

This tune may take a little work, but it is worth it!

The LORD brought Zion’s exiles back –
We were like dreaming men:
Our tongues were filled with shouts of joy
And laughter once again.

“The LORD has done great things for them,”
The nations were agreed.
The LORD has done great things for us,
And we rejoice indeed!

As streams revive the desert,
LORD, our exiles now restore.
Then those who sow their seed in tears
Shall reap with joy once more.

Though sowing seeds is weary toil,
And he who scatters weeps,
He’ll come again and shout for joy
With sheaves of grain he reaps.

This month, we will learn Psalm 95:1-7. This psalm provides not only a stirring call to worship, but also a much needed reminder of the authority of God as the Creator of all. In our day of antinomianism and spiritual pragmatism, it is important to remember that God is supreme, not us. God is the one who has created all their is, and God, in His mercy, He calls us to worship Him. When we realize this, we can truly worship Him joyfully and expectantly.

O come to the LORD, joyful songs let us sing;
Loud praise to our Rock of salvation we’ll bring!
With thanksgiving let us before Him appear;
Come sing joyful psalms, let us praise Him with cheer.

The LORD, King of all gods, the God who is great,
Possessing all things that His hands did create:
Earth’s valleys and mountains He holds in His hand;
He made them, He owns them – the sea and the land.

Come give the LORD worship, for He made us too;
Let’s bow down and offer the praise He is due.
For He is our God, we’re the flock of His land,
His people, His sheep nurtured by His own hand.

This month, we will be singing Psalm 20. From this Psalm, we learn that our only hope for salvation is found in Jesus. Some trust in their own strength, some in their intellect, some in their resources, some in the false gods of the age. But when its all been said and done, our only hope, in this life or that to come, is the true God of the Bible.

The LORD reply in your distress;
May Jacob’s God defend you then.
And from His place of holiness
Both strength and help from Zion send.

May He accept your sacrifice,
And all your off’rings bear in mind.
May He grant all your heart’s delights,
Fulfilling all you have designed.

In Your salvation we’ll rejoice,
In our God’s name our banners raise;
May the LORD always hear your voice,
Grant all you ask through all your days.

I know now that the LORD defends
And saves His own anointed king.
From holy heav’n He answer sends;
His right hand saving pow’r will bring.

A trust in chariots some proclaim,
And some in horses take their pride;
But we will boast and praise this Name:
The LORD our God, and none beside.

While we are raised and upright stand,
Our foes are made to bow and fall.
O save the king, LORD, by Your hand,
And answer us the day we call.

For the month of March 2011, we will be singing Psalm 63. This Psalm reflects a heart that understands God’s sovereignty in the midst of challenging circumstances. Written by David while he was in the Judean wilderness fleeing for his life, the words of the Psalm show David’s intense love for the Lord and also his trust in God’s plan. David reflects on his present situation while remembering God’s faithfulness in the past and anticipating His mercies in the future. While we may not be fleeing for our lives, we will face times that will test the resolve of our faith. Psalms like this one were given to us by God to help us in times of challenge and conflict. It is my prayer that you will seek the Lord, your soul will thirst for Him as you reflect upon the words of the Psalm.

O God, You Are My God

Psalm 63:1-11

Click the image below to download the sheet music. And check out the midi files below to learn your parts!

O God, You are my God,
And early will I seek for You;
My soul is athirst for You.
My flesh cries out for You
From out a dry and thirsty land,
A land where no water is.
For thus to behold You in splendid strength
I gazed after You in the holy place.
Since Your grace is much more than life,
My lips will give praise to You.

I’ll bless You while I live,
And I will ever lift my hands
To praise and confess Your name.
My soul will be made full
As with all choice and hearty meats;
I’ll praise You with joyful lips.
I think of You thus as I lie in bed
And bring You to mind in the hours of night.
Since You ever have been my help,
Your wings are my shield and joy.

My soul clings fast to You;
Your right hand holds me safely up.
When men would destroy my life,
To depths of earth they go;
They are delivered to the sword,
To jackals become a prey.
The king will rejoice and be glad in God,
And they boast aloud who have sworn in Him,
But the mouth will be made to stop
Of those who declare a lie.
